Position Description: The Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager is both a hands on (75%) and leadership (25%) position on the shop floor, directing a department of 6-9 employees, with limited (<5%) travel requirements. Responsibilities of the Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager include, review of all incoming paint and fiberglass jobs with the Service and Project Managers and subsequent scheduling of jobs for the entire paint and fiberglass staff, done on a regular basis to maximize efficiency. The Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager will be responsible for performing quality work in all facets of paint and fiberglass for vessels and projects of all types and sizes, including but not limited to repair work, new construction, paint application (rolling and spraying), sealant application, gelcoat repair, filling and faring, and mechanical painting, laminating fiberglass, faring and sanding, cored composite repair, color matching gelcoat, sealant application and removal, paint effect and graphics layout. Special consideration given for those with carbon fiber and pre-preg experience. Standard projects include but are not limited to repair of all types of hull and deck damage due to collision, fuel tank removal, thruster installation, regular painting with Awlgrip, Alexseal, and matching gelcoat is to be expected. The Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager must be able to assess damaged items and formulate a plan for repair under ABYC standards. Accurately estimating jobs is essential to this position. It is key that the Paint and Fiberglass Department Manager interface effectively with the other departments. Qualifications: Candidate must have 5-10 years of experience in the maritime industry, 2-5 of which are managing a team of tradesmen, specifically involving paint and fiberglass repair. Candidate must have extensive hands on experience, capable of leading the members of his/her department with their technical knowledge, enthusiasm, and character. The existing crew experience in the paint and fiberglass department ranges from 2-20 years. Must be able to work as a member of the senior management team to maximize efficiency and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
